Protege:The Battle for the Big Break (2nd Live Gala/1st elimination -My Review)
This is a new show, a singing competition on GMA Network. I'm a fan of this show since it has started several weeks ago. It has some similarity with Pinoy Dream Academy wherein they need to live in one roof etc etc.. some differences were each contestants has their respective mentors while on PDA, all mentors for all contestants something like that.
My Personal Bet here was Samantha Felizco, Joey G's Protege.. Okay I'll give my review based on what they sang last gala night wherein Prima Biritera Rosalyn got eliminated. Just by ranking..
PS.
IT'S JUST MY OPINION, NO OFFENSE MEANT FOR THEIR FANS.. :)
1st
KRIZZA NERI (Aiza's Protege)
from Cagayan de Oro
Who sang Superbass by Nicki Minaj
Unique and energetic performance.. She should not have been a part of the bottom group, but I think she lacks popularity in text votes which it pulled her down and made her a part of the bottom group.
2nd
SAMANTHA FELIZCO (Joey G's Protege)
from Dagupan
who sang Someone like you by Adele
Another Unique performance, refreshing and others thought better than, Adele's version. But popularity wise, she needs more supporters to guarantee a slot for the finals.Judges may give her a high score but a weak text votes may pull her down in later part of the competition.
3rd
LIRAH BERMUDEZ (Janno Gibbs' Protege)
from Iloilo
who sang Pricetag by Jesse J.
For me, it's her comfort zone, and her guitar was an additional complement. One of the strongest in text votes. A possible contender in the finals if voting trends won't change.
4th
SO WAT (Rey Valera's Protege)
singing group from Pampanga
who sang My Immortal by Evanescence
The blending of their voices made them great. For me, they added a new flavor for that song. When it comes to the text votes, they're just safe.. not too popular. if the voting trends would just be the same, they might got eliminated in the later part of the competition.
5th
JENSEN TENOSO (Claire Dela Fuente's Protege)
from Batangas
who sang Footprints in the sand by Leona Lewis
With the good song choice according to the judges, it made her one of the strongest contestant. the song was just right for her voice. She might also be one of the contenders in the finals if the voting trends won't change.
6th
DENISE BARBACENA (Gloc 9's Protege)
from Metro Manila
who sang Mandown by Rihanna
Good for her that she enjoyed her performance and fixed diction problems. another safe contestant not only with her performance but also when it comes to text voting.
7th
NOMER LIMATOG (Rachelle Anne Go's Protege)
from Cebu
who sang You give love a bad name by Bon Jovi
I think he's too young to compete for this contest but when it comes to performance, he can fight fairly for his big break with those bigger contestants of the show. one of the strongest in text voting.
8th
ROSALYN NAVARRO (Imelda Papin's Protege)
from Bicol
who sang Listen by Beyonce
a safe performer for me. she performed it safely given the she got the lowest rank on text votes that is why she got eliminated first. Good thing opportunity awaits her as her mentor gives her the break she deserves.
9th
KENNETH MONICO (Jay-R's Protege)
from Cabanatuan
who sang Grenade by Bruno Mars
I think the song does not fit his voice, given that his mentor gave a military training for him, but still it's obvious that he struggled during his performance, not so good in voting rank. if this trend won't change, he might get eliminated next.
10th
LOVELY EMBUSCADO (Jaya's Protege)
from Davao
who sang Total Eclipse of the heart by Bonnie Tyler
According to her and her mentor, she has improved. During her performance, aside from struggling with her diction problems, there are also some pitch problems in the song, but being the strongest contender in text votes pulled her up and saved from eliminations. If her style of singing does not change, voting trends for her might not be effective in the later part of the competition.
AGAIN: No offense meant for their fans, remember, I'm also a fan of them and the show.
